I intend to publish at least two books through TWIM: my own (tentatively) self-titled The Warfare Is Mental: Essays on Religion, Philosophy and other Subjects, and a compendium of at least a dozen internet debates (title TBA).

The Warfare Is Mental: Essays on Religion, Philosophy and other Subjects

Selected writings and conversations from TWIM and other corners of the (a)theist blogosphere. The book is basically written, but it’s taking me quite some time to figure out the ideal progression. It’s actually quite the chore to pour through 500 different blog posts and try to figure out the best way to string them into a book length work. As of now it’s looking like 7 short chapters, somewhere around 200 pages with an intro, forward and probably an appendix or two. The opening chapter attempts to lay some ground rules for effective communication and encourages readers to make a written inventory of their beliefs. This is an attempt to establish epistemic accountability before the arguments unfold. In the second chapter I treat metaphysical naturalism as a positive claim and attempt to explain why I reject it, followed by an explanation of why I accept general theism in the third chapter, then in the fourth chapter I discuss why I accepted “Christianity” specifically. The purpose behind the order is to accommodate those who see reason to accept general theism, but not necessarily Christianity.

  • Forward by ?
  • Intro: (sample coming soon)
  • Chapter 1: Let’s Make Sense!

Debate Compendium (Title TBA)

A collection of contemporary internet debates in philosophy of religion, with topics and commentary to be announced as we go along. I will give free copies of the book to all judges and interlocutors, then probably sell the rest and give the money to some charity. Or publish a second volume. Who knows. If you are interested in contributing to this project, head on over to the debate page and get involved.

when is it coming?

I’m hoping to have an author’s version by end of summer, but I said that last year, too. Your comments have helped motivate, thanks again for your encouragement. I stopped working on the book a while back, thinking that I wanted to spend more time in the trenches. I think I’ve spent enough time in the trenches. It’s time to pick back up again.

Although, first thing I need to do is get a decent cover.

Hey cl,

I’m really looking forward to this. This was one of the very first pages I clicked on when I was brand new to your blog, and it has intrigued me ever since. I didn’t know just how far along your book was, but I’m rather happy to hear that it’s seemingly coming along well.

Cheers!

DoubtfulAtheist,

Hey thanks. The next step will be an updated cover, a table of contents, and perhaps some introductory snippets. The book is basically written. It’s the task of organizing all my writings in the right way that’s proven a bit tricky. Nonetheless, thanks for the motivational kick to the rear. I’ve been meaning to track down some of the earlier comments you’d left around here, because I recall some genuine and interesting questions. Keep an eye out for old threads over the next week or two.

:)

Excellent. I look forward to reading it!

Saved as a favorite, I really like your blog!

The book is ready?

do i have something new to read this summer?
